History and present, facts and myths, authenticity and stylisation – the film presents the peculiar inhabitants of the largest island of the world in imaginative contrasts and with subtle humour.
Everyone knows Greenland. But who knows very much about its inhabitants and culture? How do you keep your national identity in a place so remote that the rest of the world rarely realises that someone lives there at all? The documentary lets the beautiful images of wild nature do the talking, a landscape in which the local civilisation has deeply embedded roots. Elements of the all-pervasive global culture sometimes disturb the original environment, sometimes they are assimilated in unexpected ways. Should inevitable change give rise to nostalgia and fear, or amusement and trust in the ability of the Greenlandic culture to survive in its own way?
